Welcome to our Good News Stories page where we celebrate achievements throughout the League.

On November 12th our U15 Ilchester Spitfire team traveled to play against Merley Jets U15. We wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience this was and how welcoming the team were to us. The Spitfire team manager has asked me to pass on his words about the managers, players and spectators,

“I am not sure we have ever played such a nice club in all the years we have run the team. Lovely people on and off the pitch and they focused on trying to play football no matter how hard the game was. Genuinely the perfect environment for kids.”

People are incredibly quick to send emails of complaints so we wanted to make sure we reached out to celebrate a lovely experience today and a team who are clearly doing things the right way for the children.

Thank you.

Ilchester Youth Football Club Secretary

I wanted to share how our team marked Remembrance Day.  (November 11th)
Before the game, our Wool & Winfrith U11 team honored the occasion by presenting a short explanation of Remembrance Day’s significance to the opposing team and the parents. Each of our players took part, delivering lines that we’d prepared together. I’ve attached photos and a copy of the presentation showing which players delivered each part.
Afterward, Stuart gathered the team in a huddle with arms around each other, and together with everyone on the pitch, we observed a minute of silence. It was a moving experience for everyone involved.
As it happens, this was one of the best games we’ve played to date. The communication, teamwork, and passion our players displayed were truly inspiring. Both Stuart and I were incredibly proud of them, as always.
Thank you again for your support, and I’m glad we could share this special moment with you.
Best regards,
Tee-Jai Hayter
Coach, Wool & Winfrith U11 Team

On November 9th U10 Poole Town Wessex girls played Sherborne. After the game the Sherborne coach sent her players running across to the other side where the parents were. I said what are they doing?

She said at the end of every game the girls like to high-five all of the parents including the opposition.

I thought it was a really, really nice touch and wanted to give this coach (Aila Laurence) kudos For her attitude to the game, as well as their parents too.

I thought it was brilliant from that little Team as a whole.  They deserve a pat on the back.

In July 2024 we were very pleased to receive the League of the Year award at DCFA’s recent Grassroots Football Awards night on July 25th.
It’s DCFA’s annual chance to say thank you to all the people and organisations who give their time to make football happen.

Amongst the categories celebrated are New Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year and of course League of the Year.

You can find more information on every award on DCFA’s website – Local grassroots heroes celebrated at 2024 Dorset FA Awards Night

Dear Club Secretaries, managers, coaches, referees, players and parents,

FA UPDATE ON FOOTBALL FIXTURES THIS WEEKEND

Her Majesty the Queen was a long-standing Patron of The Football Association and has left a lasting and indelible legacy on our national game.

As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, English football has united to postpone all football fixtures between 9-11 September.

The FA can confirm that all football fixtures across the Barclays Women’s Super League, Barclays Women’s Championship, the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, and the Isuzu FA Trophy, will be postponed this weekend. We can also confirm that all football fixtures across the National League System [NLS], Steps 1-6, including the Vanarama National Leagues, the Women’s Football Pyramid [WFP], Tiers 3-7, and matches across grassroots football in England will be postponed.

The Premier League and the EFL have all confirmed that their fixtures this weekend will be rescheduled for a later date.

All flags at Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park will continue to fly at half-mast over the weekend.

Our thoughts remain with our president, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and the whole of the Royal Family during this time.

Regards

Dave Drew

Dorset Youth Football League Chairman
